Tucson Events for May and June 2010

You’ll experience great weather and plenty to do this spring in Tucson.

Here is just a partial list of the great activities available in our community in May and June:

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo Wednesday, May 5 6PM-10PM at the luxurious JW Mariott Starr Pass. National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic Friday, May 7. La Paloma Country Club, an award-winning golf course, will host this preeminent amateur charity golf event. 5th Annual Taste of Arizona – Friday, May 7 6PM- 9PM Apple Store La Encantada, 2905 East Skyline Drive in Tucson. Taste a variety of delicious appetizers and Arizona’s own variety of wines produced in this region. Take part in special auctions. The event will benefit Arizona Youth Partnership. Mother’s Day Dinner at Reid Park Zoo—Sunday, May 9 5PM-7:30PM See over 500 exotic animals ! There will be a Mexican Buffet, Mariachi Music, and up close visits with animal ambassadors. Kids will enjoy face painting, games, and crafts. See www.tucsonzoo.org for more details.

Mariachi Extravaganza at The Gaslight Theater– Monday, May 10 7PM. 7010 East Broadway Boulevard Tucson, AZ. Enjoy traditional Mariachi music and a festive atmosphere at this very popular event. Special Guest Performer! For more information, see www.thegaslighttheater.com.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream (www.ballettucson.org) May 22-23. Ballet Tucson presents Shakespeare’s well- known play set to Mendelssohn’s striking score at Tucson Music Hall.

Wyatt Earp Days May 29-May 31 Have fun in the Old West with the notorious lawman! See costumed entertainers, gunfights and street skits. Enjoy a chili cook-off and stagecoach rides. Call 520.866.5266 for more information.

Our Place in the Universe—(www.skycenter.arizona.edu) Friday Jun 4—the UA Mt. Lemmon’s SkyCenter offers opportunities to observe the night sky in this unique setting. Participants receive images of the universe they helped create with the telescope.

Music in the Park at Oracle State Park (www.friendsosp.org) Sunday June 13 7PM-9PM– Friends of Oracle State Park present a concert featuring Beau Renfro, a recording artist with Stardust Records. Beau was elected into the Indie Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.

Night Wings at Pima Air & Space Museum (www.pimaair.org) Saturday June 26 5PM-9PM. See nearly 300 aircraft! Pima Air and Space Museum hosts tram rides until sundown and a walking tour of indoor hangars. Kids will enjoy flying paper airplanes, tasting space food, launching paper air rockets, and more!

Nightly Observing Program at Kitt Peak National Observatory– ongoing through July 14. Use the observatory’s three telescopes to take a visual journey through the night sky. Visit www.noao.edu/outreach/nop/ for more information.
