Catalina Foothills

Catalina Foothills

Catalina Foothills is a premier upscale residential area in Pima County, Arizona. Referred to as the Beverly Hills of Pima, reflecting both the neighborhood’s exclusivity and dramatic topography, it is only about five miles from downtown Tuscon. A rapidly growing destination for luxurious living, Catalina Foothills is home to 63,179 people, up by more then 10,000 in the last decade.
Modern settlement of the Catalina Foothills area did not begin until the early 20th century. Toward the end of the 1920’s, John Murphey of Tuscon purchased 8,000 acres in the area to develop. The Catalina Foothills School District was founded in 1931. Over the next 30 years the community continued to grow, with palatial homes soon dotting the hillsides. By the 80’s, Catalina Foothills was home to several prestigious golf courses and country clubs, including Westin La Paloma and the Skyline Country club. Throughout the 90’s and and continuing to the present, the area’s population has grown rapidly, while maintaining its upscale reputation.
The community is bordered in the north by Coronado National Forest, making it an ideal place to live for nature lovers. Its scenic beauty is arguably unsurpassed by any other locale in the Tuscon area. The rugged and majestic Catalina Mountains rise dramatically above the community, providing a stunning backdrop, and to the south there are breathtaking views of the Tuscon area, particularly at night when the valley becomes a sea of glittering lights.
While primarily residential, Catalina Foothills is not just a bedroom community. There are also top-quality dining destinations, including Sur Real, the Ventana Room, and Fleming’s and Sullivan’s steakhouses. In addition, the myriad dining and entertainment possibilities of Tuscon are only minutes away.
The Community is served by the Catalina Foothills School District, which has been designated as “Excelling” seven years in a row. The median value of a home in Catalina Foothills is $500,710, compared to $229,200 in Arizona as a whole. Its median household income is $83,235, compared to $50,958 in the state as a whole.
